The Yule Colour Palette
Xmas Blues
A.K.A : The darkness amidst the lights
The time has come when everything everywhere
is bright and colourful.
Everywhere except within you.
Christmas lights and pretty ornaments
adorn the streets, the houses,
the shops and an atmosphere of joy
and spiritual elation fills the air.
But not for you. Your soul is dry and empty
and no matter how much you try
to match the jolly feeling of
the season you fail miserably.
It makes you feel even worse,
guilty even though you cannot
partake in the festive mood.
You are not alone.
There are others like you, hundreds,
dare I say thousands that are
the way you are and experience
what you are experiencing.
Do not despair (not unless you want to),
not over this. You don’t have to follow the herd.
You are not obliged to dive deep
into the manmade cheer of the season.
You are allowed to merely suffer
the jubilee and just exit in whatever
shape and form you desire throughout
this Yuletide and every other one to come.
Buckle up and hang tide.
This Is just a small period of time
that comes and goes. Be certain
that you can endure like you always have.
You will come out of this once more
and find yourself again when all the lights go out.
Xmas Reds
A.K.A : Bull in an ornament shop
People hustling and bustling, the city alive.
You have so much to do
and so little time. People here, people there,
everywhere you need to be, people.
You are losing your temper and
your patience is getting thinner by the minute.
Everything around you becomes annoying
and the feeling of haste is the one that defines you.
You have to hurry and get things right.
You have to keep your cool and not let
your frustration get out of hand.
You see parents, children, people,
going about their day, taking their time,
enjoying their shopping and their strolls.
They are in your way, making things
take longer than they should and
the smile on their faces makes you
want to punch someone.
Do not give in to the urges. Do not engage.
You are filled with anger and you snap
at anyone around you whether
they come in peace or not, whether
they can accommodate you or not.
Anger starts turning into wrath and
you know you are at your wits end.
Take a deep breath and walk away,
it’s not worth it. Everything will be done,
everything will be in time and if not,
well at least you tried. Worry not
and you’ll find something else to feel vexed about.
Xmas Golds
A.K.A : Rejoice, rejoice.
It’s finally here! Christmas and Newyear’s
all the jubilation you can handle.
The city is filled with decorations,
trees, Santas, reindeer and all the
lights you could ever wish for.
People are happy, they are kind and generous,
full of hope and delight. You hop from store
to store to find the best presents
for you and your loved ones.
You can see their faces lit up with excitement
as they open them and that drives you even more.
Your house is full of colour and garlands,
Christmas treats and everything one
would need to feel the season at its peak.
You cannot wait to host your friends
and family, be with them, cater for them,
make this Christmas the best yet.
Your mission is to spread the love and
make as many wishes as you can come true.
You walk around the streets
just to suck all the glee in.
This is your time, the time you excel,
the time everyone turns to you
to make it special.
Enjoy this time as best you can.
Be the Santa your loved ones need
and extend your good spirits to
as many people as you can.
Give them hope to last them through the year.
Xmas Greens
A.K.A : Oh, it’s back
It’s brighter, sure. It’s more colourful, yes.
It really doesn’t matter.
It’s just another day for you.
Everyday. Whether it’s Christmas,
Easter or any other festive time,
it’s all the same to you. The only things
that change are the weather and the decorations,
not a big deal. You meet friends, family.
Well you would have anyways.
You buy presents and they give you some.
You don’t host but you accept invitations.
You decorate but not as much,
just enough to keep up.
You enjoy the food and the company,
but not more than usual.
It comes and goes and it’s just OK.
You don’t go caroling but you will
sing along during the feast.
You watch movies curled up in a blanket
with some hot chocolate but not Christmas ones.
Be unbothered, but involved as always
and make the best of it.
Eat and dance and sing.
Sleep and wake up and do it all again.
Like you do, everyday.
