Unique Beauty…

pecks

As a person who spends lots of time on social media, I recently realized that almost every influencer or

content creator I follow looks alike with some other influencers on these platforms. While scrolling

through my ‘For you’ page on TikTok I believed that I saw the same influencer back-to-back for more

than 6 times. A TikTok bug I thought for a moment. However, when I looked closely at their

usernames, I realized that they are 6 different influencers from the US.

Instead of nationality they also have the same style, daily routines, jobs, beliefs, body, and face shapes

and of course, the same beauty products. Besides, I checked influencers who I follow from other

countries and realized that even if every country has its beauty standards there is a massive global

culture which promotes specific beauty standards. Somehow, we all decide to dive into those

standards. Even though we know that most of those girls hide their natural beauty doing treatment

of injuries or putting fillers.

Five years ago, we celebrated diversity and uniqueness. Now, every girl tries to find the best doctor

in order to make a tiny change, which is never really tiny, so that they look like those influencers who

swear that they haven’t done anything to their face. At the same time fashion and beauty industries

make a tone of money building up their insecurities and using hashtags as #loveyourself.

Not only women aren’t silly or superficial but also, they know exactly what is happening, although

the patriarchy, money, companies, and the masculine world where we were raised, don’t help us

to jump on the right wagon.

Beauty and the Beast

max

Two entities or only one?

You and someone else or just you?

Beauty has long and far been the object of desire, the subject of controversial discussions,

the secret and not so secret wish to end all wishes, perhaps only next to that of being rich, although

in a contest most people will cast a vote easier to beauty for the simple reason that if you are

beautiful, in other words healthy, in more other words lucky, therefore put-together, well-mannered

since you suffer from zero stress and insecurity, you are bound to succeed in any business area

and become extremely wealthy, if not just by attracting the right people and capturing the attention

of the powerful.

But somewhere here, among the attraction, the power and the very simplicity of the transference of

what looks on the outside to the persons with whom you interact, the projections they'll do for

anything lying underneath the skin and by they I mean all parties involved, is where the beast

lies dormant. A Beast like no other. Because it keeps changing shape and form, sometimes even

taking on more bodies than one or heads!

This creature can hide as easily in the shadows, sucking your energy out little by little, as in the open,

poisoning virtually every exchange you may have with others and intoxicating any decision

you make. You love yourself, one minute, or at least you make a decent effort to pretend because

you recognize that it's impossible to please and cater for everyone’s taste, it simply doesn’t

make any sense! But wait! Sense?

Sense of what? The next minute, you are up for swaying your way into a fantasy where the only

thing that makes sense is the fact that you are beautiful and everyone admires you and, do I dare say,

love you? No matter how hard one may try to decode the obsession with beauty and the relevant

fields-industry of cosmetology and plastic surgery and so on, one thing is for sure; looking for

beauty guarantees ending in the arms of the beast. The beast called ego, but also your deep rooted

need to be loved.

Instinctively, we all know that without love we are just beasts. But also, we soon find out despite our

different journeys, one thing only as the main antidote to the spell we are all more or less under;

We must accept, have an intimate relationship with our beast and yes, here comes the hard one,

the impossible, love our beast!

We find beauty, true beauty unique to us yet universal, not by killing the beast, sorry it's immortal,

not by killing the ego, sorry it's immortal too, but by loving, nurturing and embracing our mortality.

The Eye of The Beholder

dp

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so the saying goes, assuming that all eyes are different,

unique, a variety of standards and perspectives to choose from. In that case all of us and each of

us are beautiful for there will always be a set of eyes that will find us a wonder to behold.

That is the most comforting thought, knowing that you will always be found not wanting, is it that

really the case though? And what happens when that specific set of eyes takes too long to see you?

Eyes and therefore perceptions can be influenced, even shaped by so many different factors

nowadays that it almost feels like a lost cause. Trying to keep up with the trends and what is

considered beautiful at any given time period is exhausting and to tell you the truth, kind of sad.

In our yearning to entrap as many eyes as we can in order to have more admirers, more

choices, we actually reject and tamper with all that makes us different from the rest, all that makes us,

us.

But the thought of not being amongst the chosen ones, the ones that everyone raves about is one

that carries a lot of strength of character, something that most of us lack. So we go deeper into

the rabbit hole chasing something that was but a notion drilled in our heads from the time we started

interacting with other people, failing to understand that being beautiful and therefore chosen

is nothing but a fleeting moment that goes by faster than the moment itself, leaving us alone

again with ourselves, the only person we need to chose us anyways.
