“Emotionally Intelligent people are more likely to succeed”

by Vangus Magnus

Emotional intelligence is the ability a person has to recognize,

understand and manage emotion not only in oneself but also in other

people. In the present, vast, professional landscape, Emotional

Intelligence is a key aspect, apart from the traditional intelligence,

determining the success of a person in many life domains.

As D.Goleman states, EI could be broken down to four core aspects.

First and foremost, self-awareness is the ability to recognise

emotions and their effects.

Secondly, self-management refers to the ability to reflect and take

actions upon these emotions.

Next, it is social awareness which enables a person to recognize

others' emotions. It could also be called empathy.

Lastly, relationship-management, refers to the ability to influence

others, motivate them and resolve interpersonal conflicts.

Undoubtedly, all these skills have a major effect on people’s lives.

These mechanisms foster communication between coworkers,

family members or friends and as a result improve their well being.

In addition, they improve a person’s adaptability, making them resilient

to drawbacks and well equipped for managing stress and pressure.

Concluding, Emotional Intelligence, is a critical asset for someone

to possess, enhancing the potential for success across various life

aspects.

EI is something that could be developed by each individual,

improving their personal well-being, increasing their professional

achievements and bringing harmony to their relationships.
